“Bridging the Culture Gap”
Presented by David Hull-Frye
The demographic of Cuyahoga Falls has changed in recent years, which means those we serve has also changed. Those buying our products and working for us has changed as well. Has your business adapted to the new demographics?
Join David Hull-Frye for discussions on bridging the culture gap in Cuyahoga Falls. Our conversations will focus on the following areas:
- Diversity statistics in Cuyahoga Falls. (The numbers will shock you).
- Story of Nepali speaking Bhutanese (why they are Refugees, family structure, struggles they face, how many live in the Akron area?).
- Introducing yourself in Nepali (we already know how)
- The role of religion in culture (and how employers can honor it).
- Battling our own biases about culture (we all have them)
- Are we as Welcoming to other cultures as we think we are? (No, but there is hope)
- And the #1 phrase we should NEVER say with regard to immigration.
David Hull-Frye is Pastor at Grandview United Methodist Church, an InterGenerational MultiCultural Christian Faith Community located at 23rd and Phelps Ave. He has a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Bluffton University (01) and a Master of Divinity degree (09) from the Methodist Theological School in Ohio.
After 9/11 David spent a year resettling Bosnian and Sudanese Refugees in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He currently pastors a multicultural congregation that includes the first Nepali Speaking Christian congregation in the Akron area. In 2018 David attended the Mosaic church conference which focuses on expanding diversity in churches and has served on the East Ohio United Methodist MultiCultural Vitality Board
